IOANA MIHAELA BALAN, CAMELIA TULCAN, MONICA OCNEAN, CARMEN DURAU

Abstract

In Romania, over time, the goat was exploited in the poor areas of the country, where the agricultural potential was lower or in the human communities with poor economic potential. Even if the current county distribution of goats in Romania is not balanced, it is remarkable in all parts of the country, being increasingly appreciated for its milk, which has exceptional nutritional and hygienic qualities. In some social environments in Romania, it is a growing preference for goat meat, in contrast to sheep, especially in the traditional consumption of Easter, when the sheep and goat consumption rate is clearly higher than the rest of the year.
