ESSENTIAL ASPECTS CONCERNING THE APPLICATION OF THE COMPETITION LAW IN THE ENERGY AND NATURAL GAS SECTOR

Abstract


The paper presents essential aspects concerning the application of competition law in the energy and natural gas sector. Romania is largely independent in terms of energy, the entire domestic demand of electricity and a significant part of the gas demand being covered from the domestic production. The Government has a strong presence in the market of natural gas production too, and controls most electricity generation capacities. In large segments of the retail gas and energy market price regulation continues to exist. There is an absolute need to renew production capacities in the traditional segments, as well as the infrastructure, although there was a significant expansion of the generation capacity by using renewable energy sources.
