Gheorghe Pribeanu

Abstract

Tourism is a branch of the national economy, with complex functions, which offers goods and services to people who travel for less than one year for pleasure reasons.

Tourism can be defined as an industry based on services formed of tangible and non-tangible components. The tangible resources are: transport services, accommodation and food services, other services such as: banking, assurance and security services. The non –tangible services are: rest and relaxation, culture, adventure, new experiences.

Within the tertiary sector we can include tourism and the industry of hospitality, due to the content of the activities they carry and the multitude of services they offer on the market. In a national economy, the importance of tourism and hospitality increases from one year to another. The economic and social changes have created and developed tourism as a distinct branch of the national economy.
