EFFICIENCY OF CHEMICAL FERTILIZER USE IN ROMANIAN AGRICULTURE. COMPARATIVE STUDY BASED ON FAOSTAT DATA

Ana Ursu

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the efficiency of chemical fertilizer use on the value of agricultural production, using statistical indicators provided by FAOSTAT. Indicators on fertilizer production, import, export, the quantity applied per hectare, and fertilizer consumption about the value of the agricultural output (g/Int$) will be analyzed. The research methods used are quantitative analysis, comparison method, and correlation method to identify the intensity of fertilizer use and agricultural productivity. The results obtained show that Romania produces 600 thousand tons of nitrogen fertilizers, exports 166 thousand tons, imports 467 thousand tons, and consumes on average 46 kg/ha, which reflects a low degree of intensification compared to EU countries, and the specific fertilizer consumption about the value of agricultural production is 28 g/Int$.

Keywords

nutrient nitrogen N; export; import; use per area of cropland (kg/ha); use per value of agricultural production (g/Int$); Romania.
