Marius Popescu, Romulus Gruia, Nicolae Țane

Abstract

The rural environment of Southern Dobrogea has a diverse natural landscape and cultural heritage. The aim of this study is to define the specific activity of rural tourism along Danube river, between Ostrov and Ghindărești villages, as a solution for sustainable development of local communities from this area. Research methodology consisted in bibliographic documentation and field research to discover villages with local resources and traditional activities, and to identify capitalizing opportunities for those in  rural tourism. By associating local socio-economic factors with natural resources and cultural heritage opportunities, the study proposes a polyvalent tourist trail along the Danube, in Southern Dobrogea. Management efficiency of rural tourism in this region is an important factor to socio-economic sustainability of local communities.
