Abstract

Romania, as a viticulture and winemaking country, ranks 11 worldwide and 5 in Europe in areas cultivated with grapevine. This paper aims at analysing the viticulture and winemaking sectors in Romania during 2000-2015. The methods used have been the analysis and processing of data from official sites and publications. The viticulture and winemaking sectors are important branches of national economy. Analyses and studies show that the areas cultivated with grapevine in Romania have decreased with 28% compared to 2000 because of the ageing o most grapevine plantations established before 1989 and of the lack of proper strategic measures meant to recover these plantations on the background of the current socio-economic situation.
